How has adoption changed your life?
Being an adoptee born in the United States I would say that adoption has changed my life in numerous ways. I think adoption has made me a more curious person about the world and opening me up to different experiences that most people will never understand.
What is a lesson from your adoption experience that could be life-changing for all families?
My biggest lesson from my own adoption experience is that adoptees shouldn't feel ashamed in expressing the identity problems that every adoptee goes through at some point in time. Adoptees should have access to more resources about identity issues relating to adoption as well as getting access to mental health resources for trauma related to adoption.
What changes would you like to see made in adoption?
I think that more attention should be given to studying adoptees that are born in the united states because I feel it is one of the most inder represented groups of adoptees that often get left out of the discussion when issues relating to adoption are being discussed.
